Click here to download a pdf of the powerpoint in handout form. Please respect the proprietary nature of some material in this powerpoint; it is provided for you to use as you would use "notes" taken during the presentation. You may use it as source material to educate others at your place of work, but please do not duplicate or further distribute. Note: I have included in this pdf a segment of the presentation that I did not include in the presentation on Oct. 25; this segment pertains to chat & IM and is identifiable by the yellow background used for slides in this segment. This segment is geared toward parents who are not familiar with how chat rooms function, and who need advice on how to understand and monitor a youth's chat room and IM activities.

During the workshop, I mentioned recent changes that had taken place with regard to Facebook's privacy settings. For further information about these changes, follow this link (this will take you out of the Spectrum Diversity website) to the ACLU website: http://www.aclu.org/blog/technology-and-liberty/facebook-addresses-several-privacy-problems. Once there, click on the active links in this article to find additional articles about protecting your privacy on Facebook.

I also mentioned the Center for Safe and Responsible Internet Use, and a document available on the csriu.org website regarding the legal limits on schools' authority to discipline cyber misbehavior, including an outline of procedures for the investigation of cyber incidents. Follow this link to the CSRIU website: http://www.csriu.org/cyberbully/ and click on "educators' guide." Also look at the other documents on the CSRIU website; very high quality, very detailed information about legal issues surrounding schools and cyber bullying.

My 12-year old made some suggestions and found one error in the Teen & Adult crossword puzzle that was uploaded on Oct. 26 , so click here for an updated version of the Teen & Adult puzzle (uploaded Nov. 3, 2010), and click here for Young Teen version of the crossword puzzle for 13-14 year olds. Check back later for Kids and Pre-teen versions of the puzzle.
If you want a copy of the crossword puzzle we did during the workshop, it can be found at the website named on that puzzle.
